Duodenal Leiomyoma and Leiomyosarcoma

Abstract
A retrospective clinical analysis was made in 5 patients with leiomyoma or leiomyosarcoma of the duodenum, seen at two hospitals, Seoul National University Hospital and Capital Armed Forces General Hospital.
@ES The following results were obtained.
@EN 1) All patients were men. The age of the patients was evenly distributed. (mean: 44.2 years)
2) Three cases were leiomyoma and two cases were leiomyosarcoma.
3) The preoperative duration from the onset of symptom to diagnosis was relatively long and ranged from 2 months to 4 years.
4) The common presenting symptom was anemia(60%), which implied upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
5) The most informative diagnostic method was hypotonic duodenography.
6) Local resection was done in 3 cases of leiomyoma and one case of leiomyosarcoma. Wide resection was done in one case of leiomyosarcoma.
Duodenal exclusion procedures were added for one case of leiomyoma and one case of leiomysarcoma.
7) Postoperative complication was not developed in local resection group.
8) We propose that the safer procedure be considered in the treatment of duodenal leiomyoma or leiomyasarcoma.
